How to...

Get a picture from the Web.

Method #1

1. Start Netscape, Explorer, or AOL.
2. Locate the picture or animated GIF you want to use. Make sure you check the page for any copyright notices-you can't just go to any old website and steal images. You're OK if you're on a site like Animation Factory or MediaBuilder.com.
3. Resize your window. Go to the lower right corner of the Netscape window and use the mouse to "grab" the corner. Drag it about one inch to the left so there is a space on the right side of the screen. You should be able to see the desktop below.
4. Go into the apple menu, which is the rainbow-colored apple in the upper left corner of the screen. Choose "Scrapbook." (If it is not there, you will need to use Method #2 instead.) You should see the Scrapbook open, with a window that contains a picture. Drag the Scrapbook over to the right side of the screen if it is not already there.
5. Put your mouse on the picture you want. Press and hold the button and IMMEDIATELY move the mouse. If you get a menu, let go and try again. You should get a "ghost" or an outline of the picture that moves with your mouse.
6. Drag the "ghost" over to the Scapbook. It's OK if you can only see part of the scrapbook window, and if there is already another picture there.
7. Let go of the mouse button. Your picture should "drop" into the Scrapbook. If it doesn't, try again. Repeat until you have the pictures you need (note that the Scrapbook has a limit of 255 images.) You can scroll through the Scrapbook to see what you have already collected.

Method #2

1. Start Netscape, Explorer, or AOL.
2. Locate the picture or animated GIF you want to use. Make sure you check the page for any copyright notices-you can't just go to any old website and steal images. You're OK if you're on a site like Animation Factory or MediaBuilder.com.
3. Hold down on the mouse until a menu pops up. (In Windows, right-click the picture.) From the menu that appears, choose "Save Image As..." or "Download Image to Disk."
4. In the window that appears, locate the folder where you wish to save the image. (This would be the Documents folder, or your own personal folder.) Click Save.
5. Continue until you have all the images you need. You can drag and drop these images into pretty much any document you want.
