PARISH COUNCIL MEETING

ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH

MARCH 25, 2008

 

 

A.  Opening Prayer:  Norman Twaddel

 

B.  Attendance:  Fr. Peter Kaseta, Fr. Don Bosco Duquette, Elizabeth DeWitt,

Kathleen Dodge, Lori Dunbar, Colleen Griffin, Audrey Martin, Deacon JohnMcAuliffe,

Michael Pizzo, Denise Reynolds, Kathy Tuttle, and NormanTwaddel.

Excused:  Fr. James Hammer, David Holt, Lori Lee

 

C.  Review and Acceptance of February Minutes:  The February minutes

      were unanimously accepted as submitted.

 

D.  Disciples in Mission:   Linda LaVopa joined the Parish Council meeting

      to report on the Disciples in Mission program.  Linda and Judy Bivens

      led two groups which met for 90 minutes on Mondays and Wednesdays

     during Lent.  There was prayer and discussion of the weekly readings.

     The consensus was that this was a good program and a positive

     experience for those who took part.  A Day of Reflection will be planned

     for participants and parishioners between Lent and Pentecost, if possible,

     and a parish profile will be created for a final report on the Disciples in

     Mission program.     

 

E. 100th Anniversary of the Church:   The date for the Bishop to celebrate

     Mass in honor of the Church anniversary is October 4, 2009, at 5:00 P.M.

     Fr. Don Bosco contacted Peter Sullivan, who compiled the 75th

     anniversary booklet, and he has agreed to update the history of the church

     for the 100th.  The committee will next meet on May 5th, 2008, at 6:30. 

 

 

F.  Volunteer Dinner:  The date of the Volunteer Dinner is June 7, 2008. 

      The Knights of Columbus will provide dinner, and there will be a

      committee compiled to be in charge of set-up, hors d’oeuvres, and

      desserts.

 

G.  Food and Game Night:   A St. Joseph’s Parish Food and Game night

      will be held on April 11, 2008, at 6:00 P.M.  The event will be potluck,

      and the Parish Council will provide paper goods, drinks, and utensils.

      An announcement will be made at Mass, and the event will be published

      in the bulletin.

 

H.  Pastor’s Report:   The Finance Committee will present the parish

      budget at the May meeting of the Parish Council. 

 

      The Easter Sunday Masses were very well attended, with a full church

      at the 8:00 A.M. Mass and an overflow crowd at the 10:00.  The Easter

      Sunday offertory collection totaled approximately $11,250, and the Palm

      Sunday offertory almost the same amount. 

 

      There is an upcoming meeting of the religious education directors of

      St. Joseph’s, St. Patrick’s, and St. Pius to plan the 2009 1st Communion

      and Confirmation celebrations.  Beginning in 2009 there will be

      one ceremony per year per cluster with the Bishop presiding.  The 2008

      1st Communion/Confirmation retreat will take place on March 29 and the

      Rite of Enrollment on March 30. 

 

I.   Other:   Michael Pizzo reported that the E-Drop business has been sold

      to Jarrod Maxfield.  The new ownership would like to keep the same

      arrangement, and a statement would be mailed quarterly.  The

      fundraiser will need to be re-publicized to the parish.

 

      Elizabeth DeWitt expressed her willingness to try to organize a group

      for teen parish members.  An announcement will be placed in the

      bulletin. 

 

 

J .  April Meeting:  The next council meeting will be on April 29, 2008,

      at 6:30 P.M.  Audrey Martin will present the opening prayer. 

      The Executive Committee will meet on April 1st at 5:30 P.M.
